Title: Dear Dylan
Author: Siobhan Curham
Pages: 208
Rating: 4.5/5

Summary (Goodreads):

Fourteen year old Georgie Harris feels as if the summer holidays are over before they have even begun. Banned from going to the local drama workshop by her bully of a step-dad and her increasingly fragile mum, she is consigned to six long weeks of looking after her tooth-fairy obsessed kid sister. Sick of feeling like the outsider at home and at school, she starts emailing the one person she thinks might understand; Dylan Curtland, star of the popular soap opera Jessop Close. And when Dylan starts emailing back, Georgie finally feels a spark of hope. At last she has someone who really gets her, someone who really wants to help. But in the faceless world of email all is not as it seems

My Say:

Very endearing! Dear Dylan is a very interesting and fascinating story about a 14 years old girl, depressed, troubled and miserable with her family problems. When she starts emailing Dylan, everything changes and she felt like she could has her life back somehow.

It's like a story from 2 person; Georgie and Dylan. They emailed each other and become e-mates. I really love Georgie. Despite of her non-stop problem and her non-stop sulking and whining, kind of irritated me but when I think about it back, hey, I was 14 before and that was exactly what I was. Very annoying like the world is turn against me and the whys questions always lingers and bothered me so much. But she has reasons why she's like that. Georgie character is very colorful, she's strong, independent (for a 14 years old girl) and sometimes I feel very sorry for what she's been through.

From my point of view, Georgie is looking for a break through, a chance to escape for a while from her real problematic life. She needs someone that she can talk to and someone to share her unsatisfactory of her life. This is a very beautiful story even it's just less than 200 pages of an entirely emails from both of Georgie and Dylan. It's pack, condense and I enjoyed it utterly. I really recommend you read this book and I assure you that you're going to love it.

  4. Sounds interesting and I cannot wait to read it! I was first introduce to this email/sms/letter style of writing when I read Where Rainbow Ends by Cecelia Ahern and then again by Meg Cabot's books. I enjoyed those tremendously, so I think I'd certainly love this one as well!

  11. You are right that remembering that you were once 14 helps endear characters to you. I often get mad when characters act dumb or immature, but then I have to qualify that with their age...
