Title: Mary, Mary
Author: James Patterson
Pages: 480
Rating: 4/5

Summary (Goodreads):

FBI agent Alex Cross is on vacation with his family at Disneyland when he gets a call from the Director. A well-known actress was shot outside her home in Beverly Hills. Shortly afterward, an editor for the Los Angeles Times receives an e-mail describing the murder in vivid detail.

Alex quickly learns that this is not an isolated incident. The killer, known as Mary Smith, has done this before and plans to kill again. Right from the beginning, this case is like nothing Alex has ever confronted. Is this the plan of an obsessed fan or a spurned actor, or is it part of something much more frightening? And particularly baffling, how could a woman be capable of these vicious crimes?

Members of Hollywood's A-list fear they're next on Mary's list, and the case grows by blockbuster proportions as the LAPD and FBI scramble to find a pattern before Mary can send one more chilling update.

My Review:

It's been so long since I've read James Patterson's Cross series. But now he is back with a new case, a big one which a big psychopath murderer this time. And can you believe me this is actually his 11th Alex Cross series?

However, it is still a WOW! I love the book so much, in a very engaging storyline. And the title of Mary, Mary really intrigues me. When I picked up the book, I thought, ohh, OK, this will be a crazy woman case. What will you think when every time there's a murder case, an email will be sent by a 'Mary Smith', which full of how she's so flattered to kill hot Hollywood actresses. She kept saying of ''nobody' or 'somebody' instead of why she did the murders. It's not for pleasure either. She love to think herself as a 'storyteller'.

Agent Cross is determined to solve the case, but when he is also having a personal problem with his ex-wife about his youngest child, he is wavered, a bit. After a Mary person is caught, he is not sure that is the one Mary Smith they are looking for. Even when all the proves and evidences are all against this very Mary person.

In the end, Cross succeed to solve the case, and eventually in a hard way style. This thriller and suspense, mysterious murders case came up with a twisted end. Which you will never ever come across your mind. The length of the chapters also makes it a very fast quick read. Imagine this 480 pages book has 121 chapters! Each chapter is hardly 3 or 4 pages long but with the engrossing plots, promise you that it tells more than in 10 pages long.

I love all the twisted stories, psychological criteria, mysteries and not to forget it is a page-turner's book. You'll finish it in one sitting, like a few hours and leaves you wondering how amazing the story is.

I would recommend this to all thriller/mysteries/suspense or James Patterson's fan only =)

  7. I love the Alex Cross mysteries and this is one that I seemed to have missed. Off to see if I can snag a copy from BM or PBS. Thanks for reminding me of a series that I've always loved, both the books and the made for TV movies with Morgan Freeman.
